Re-Reading the Dedicatory Prayer for Moldova

E-mail entry from Zach: "So, last P-day, we went for a hike. It wasn't much of a hike, rather just a meandering walk up a foresty hill. You could see a lot of the city from up on top. We hiked up the path for a little while, found a good place to have our lunch, then played some games and read the Dedicatory Prayer of Moldova given by M. Russel Ballard in 2001. Somewhere on that hill is where he dedicated Moldova for the preaching of the gospel. We weren't sure of the exact place it occured, so we made our own!"

Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicated the Republic of Moldova for the preaching of the gospel on 16 May, 2001. Located between Ukraine and Romania, Moldova is part of the Romania Bucharest Mission and has had missionaries in the country since October 1997. Moldova currently has one branch with some 200 members. In his dedicatory prayer, Elder Ballard prayed for the people of Moldova. “Help them to strengthen their families and the nation,” he said. “Bless the people that their hearts may be touched by the light of the gospel so that the message of the restoration of Thy Church and kingdom may penetrate their hearts and their minds.” Elder Ballard was joined at the dedication by Elders D. Lee Tobler and Ronald A. Rasband of the Europe Central Area Presidency. The dedication took place on a hill overlooking Chisinau.

"Sweet is the Work"

Elder Ure, Elder Nemrow, Elder Gardner, and Elder Jensen listen to Presidant Lundbergs words of Congratulations! They had an 8 week "friend competition" for the 6 zones in the mission on getting investigators to Church. The Chisinau Zone won the prize -

Zach with President and Sister Lundberg

Zach had a chance to visit with President and Sister Lundberg at Transfer time before they head home to Utah in July. President Lundberg will have completed his three year assignment as the Romania Bucharest Mission President. Zach has enjoyed serving under the Lundbergs and will greatly miss them. The Lundberg's are from the Logan, UT area and will be headed home to the Cache Valley next month. At least they will be close enough to visit.

Zach Saying "Hello" From Moldova

Attached is a picture of Zach as we talked to him via Skype. He looks good, we were helping Lexi and Blake sing "I Love to See the Temple", and he got just a little emotional, but in a good way! Best of all, we made him laugh a lot! Several missionaries were invited to have Mother's Day dinner at Bro. & Sis. Aiken's home, he's the LDS Branch President in Moldova. Him and his wife, Kesli are living in Moldova on a two year assignment with the US State Department. Bro. Aiken is an ex-Marine and now works for the American Embassy in Chisinau. His wife arranged for the missionaries to talk to their mother's for 30 minutes each via Skype. It was such a treat to see him, and his smile! It was the best Mother's Day for me!

Enjoy a bit of Chisinau, the Capitol of Moldova

Chisinau is the capital of Moldova. It is the largest city of the country and its political, administrative, economical and cultural centre. The name Chisinau comes from Romanian word "chisla noua" which reffers to a spring on the corner of Pushkin and Albisoara streets around which the original city was built. Chisinau is situated in the centre of the republic on the river Bic. The city lies on seven hills and occupies the territory of around 120 sq. km. In Chisinau there are 23 lakes which are mostly situated in the parks. The capital of Moldova is considered to be one of the greenest cities in Europe. There are many parks in the city and the trees grow on almost every street. In the parks live about 14 species of birds and 14 species of amphibians. You can also find some live mammals in the park, and fish swimming in the park lakes.
